Engineering student (MSc) at Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology, Maximilien Blache joined our team in early July. His mission: risk management and analysis focused on supply chain. He is in charge of the conception of methodological tools to secure companies’ supply chain and to cope with the specific issues they are facing. Interview of Maximilien :

What is your mission at Medef Deux-Sèvres ?
I have been recruited as a trainee at Medef Deux-Sèvres to work on risk management processes for its members: risk cartography and treatment. Medef Deux-Sèvres, which is a local branch of the French largest employer federation, codeveloped with AMRAE a pragmatic and SMEs-adapted methodology. It allows employers to have a 360° vision of their companies through a meticulous analysis of every risk (finance, strategy, HR…). It is available online and for free on macartodesrisques.fr.
Lessons learned from Covid-19 crisis management highlighted some weaknesses in SMEs’ supply chain. This explains why Medef Deux-Sèvres recruited me to specifically study these supply chain risks.

More specifically, what do you do?
I am working closely with the member companies in their supply chain management in order to create a modular and complete methodological tool which will fit in the already existing treatment plan. Thus, I need to analyse the companies’ entire flow management. As an example, we’ve managed to highlight some facts:
               -most SMEs do not have suppliers audit strategy;
               -they often limit the scope of their supply chain management to suppliers and stocks.
It is important to consider an optimized and collaborative supply chain as a major asset for companies’ competitiveness. Moreover, in the current context, it could help to secure companies’ organization and ease business continuity. My work answers to true field problematics and takes part in a larger process of continuous improvement.

What are your projects after your internship at Medef Deux-Sèvres ?
As a French engineering student (MSc) in industrial and mechanical engineering at Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology, Paris, I will be specialized in entrepreneurship and business development next year. Medef Deux-Sèvres particularly offers me the possibility to have an insight in companies and to apprehend the related constraints. Furthermore, I am willing to continue my strong investment in Arts et Métiers and the student life both of which allowed me to fulfil myself personally and professionally.
Besides, I am looking forward to find a 6-months internship abroad and Japan is one of my considered destinations. Indeed, it fascinates me and its hard-working and corporate culture is with no doubt a rich source of lessons.
These experiences are important for they help me to widen my professional horizon, to better understand issues in the field and to develop empathy, which is an essential human quality to a future engineer.
